Tipster Scenario – A tip in gambling is a bet offered by a third party who is considered more knowledgeable in this matter than the bookmaker setting the initial odds. (The bookmaker will vary his odds depending on the amount of the bet placed, but must start from scratch and set the starting price himself to encourage betting.) Thus, the tipster does not even consider tips as confidence, but says that the bookmaker has set the price too low (or too high) compared to the true risk: this is a form of derivative financial instrument, since the tipster himself does not risk his money, but sells his expertise to others to try to “beat the bookmaker”.

The informant must overcome the profit margin embedded in the sports betting odds by the betting teams of bookmakers, and then also gain an additional advantage to make a profit in the long run.
